Asus 1215n Q&A answers

here are a few answers, if you don't see your question answered down below, let me know on my youtube account and i'll answer that one for you soon

enjoy :D

Q. kingleo16

Where is the hard drive located and is it possible to upgrade it by myself?

Thanks in advance!

A. There are actually two hard drives which combine to give you 250GB of storage, but its pretty much in the center, and to get to it you have to take off the keyboard, and shell. You can change it by yourself, but it is a very long and precarious process that may lead to the breaking of your asus 1215n, so I wouldn’t suggest it. I would suggest using either an external HD or the free online 500GB storage that Asus gives you for free with it

(1) hi there!

great videos you got there.

tell me one thing: what about the 1215n keyboard?
i heard some complains about the flex in the middle of the keyboard.

is it really that bad?

thank you.

(2) One more question: what about the 1201n keyboard vs 1215n keyboard?
Does the 1201n has the same "problem"?

thank you.

A. (1) actually the keyboard flex is not really bad, i type allot (i use it allot for school reports) and it doesn't affect the way you type or anything, the way that i would describe it as the key board feels kinda cheap. i can't really feel the flex that much as much as hear it.

so to answer the question, no its not that bad, its noticeable at first but you get used to it.

(2) and yes from what I’ve been told they both use the exact same keyboard with the same “problem”.

Hey I had just a question about the 1215n. I was wondering if you knew when the version with USB 3.0 would become availabe in the US or maybe if you knew of a site that sold the european version with USB 3.0. thanks

A. Actually there is a model with the USB 3.0 in the US but it’s a little bit more expensive, its still the Asus 1215n but it’s the Lamborghini version, its called the Lamborghini Vx6 and I’ve been told it has USB 3.0, and it uses higher quality materials for its shell. It also has a higher quality keyboard, and it comes with 4GB of ram, however that does come with a $699 price tag.

Q. LordSuperCow

How heavy is the Asus 1215n compared to the Acer Aspire One?

A. They both are around the same weight, the acer aspire one that I had was 2.8lbs and the Asus 1215n is around 3lbs

Q. woshiprozzz

Hi sirmousalot, I have a question...
There are many different models of the asus 1215n. Such models may include:
Asus 1215N - SIV046M

Asus 1215N-BLK054M

Asus 1215n - PU17

Does anyone know if there are? any major differences, hardware-wise, between the three?
Which model types will be able to include a USB 3.0 and a better bluetooth?
Or simply, which model types are the "BEST"
I may want my Ideal asus 1215n to be USB 3.0, bluetooth, 4gb RAM with win7 64-bit OS.

Thanks!

A. theres no real difference between those models, the first and the last are just the Black and Silver versions of the Asus 1215n that are sold in the US, while the middle one is the black one sold in the UK.
However if you do want to get one with USB 3.0 and bluetooth, it would be the Lamborghini version of it called the vx6. however none come with win7 64, you can upgrade it to that and it works just fine, but you have to install it yourself.

(can't find the word for word quote but here's the gist of it) how is the screen, how are the viewing angles, and what is the quality like.

A. The screen is good quality in my opinion, however its glare style so if you want to take this outside or use it in the car on the road, somethings can be difficult to see. The viewing angles are pretty good, it's around a 150 degree viewing angle until the colors start to change

Hi Ian!
thx for your video
first of all, i'm a noob and this is the first time getting a netbook. (if u dont mind please set me on anonymous)
1) i want to buy asus 1215n. later i also want to upgrade it to 4gb. but how can use the "other" 2gb?
2)and how can i upgrade the asus on win7 64bit?
3) did you try photoshop cs5 on it?
4)and did you also try to play assassins creed 3 (low/medium settings)?

srry got a lot of questions ^^ hope you can answer them.

A.
well lets get into this

1. well right now theres a problem with some asus computers and even though you upgrade to 4GB you can only use 2.8, unless you use a certain brand i think

2. yeah alot of ppl have done that already, but just buy the CD and install it, and if you have problems you may have to check your drivers and install 64bit drivers

http://forum.eeeuser.com/viewforum.php?id=75
this is a good site to check for help on the 32bit to 64bit (but it shouldn't be to hard to install it)

3. i haven't tried photoshop CS5, but i use photoshop CS4 quite frequently (to color my comics) and it works perfectly

4. unfortunately i don't have Assassins creed 3 (brotherhood right?), i'll have to find a demo or something, you can keep up with my vids and i might be able to do it

The ION2 GPU comes in a handful of models, each with a different clock speed.

Could you find out what clock speed the ION2 inside the 1215n specifically runs at by default? I believe 3Dmark is able to tell you how fast the GPU runs, as well as the NVIDIA control panel. (Help>System Information)

A.
Actually i know that from memory it runs at 475 mhz on the 1215n but on nettops it runs at 535mhz

  1. Question! Nobody mentions anything about ExpressGate--the instant-on O/S for this netbook. Is it on there? Does it work? Does it work well??

1.Play 1080p .mkv files without any lag
2.Output the above via HDMI to a tv without any lags
3.Is 2GB ram enough to playback HD videos or will i have to upgrade main ?

  5. I'm considering getting this netbook for a trip to China that I'm taking. One of the features that I'm interested in using is the webcam to chat with my wife while I'm over there. Is there any way you can demo the camera quality or even do a webchat with me so that I can see it for myself?

  7. Have you heard any complaints abiut a poor power cord?

    ReplyDelete
  8. well its not really about the quality of the power cord, its more about the size of the power pin, its about 2mm thin and i could see how it would break easily if you are rough with your material, but i haven't had any problems with it so far, and i travel alot

its really a matter of how well you take care of your stuff

  9. I just got a 1215n, and Team Fortress 2 seemed laggier than I would have expected. I'm not very good at computer stuff, so are there any settings I should change to fix that or something?

    ReplyDelete
  10. well i don't have TF 2 yet so i don't really know, i usually find these settings by monkeying around with them

but if you do know how to set things to DX 7 mode than that should really help out

  11. Does the Asus 1215n run Quakelive on all low settings on an external monitor (VGA) @ 1280x1024, 75hz with a constant 125fps (no drops at all)?

    Will be greatly appreciated.
